Community Continues its Mission for Residents to Live Longer, Healthier Lives July 2 Ribbon-Cutting Celebration Planned to Commemorate Opening

Pawleys Island, S.C, July 2, 2008 –The Lakes at Litchfield, a premier continuing care retirement community (CCRC) located in Pawleys Island, S.C., has announced the completion of its new multi-million dollar wellness center and assisted-living building.  A project that began in April 2007, the new 13,000 square-foot building is attached to the current healthcare component of the community expanding the structure to 70,000 square feet.  To commemorate the opening, the community will host a grand opening and ribbon-cutting celebration on July 2.

“The opening of the new wellness center and assisted-living building is very exciting to the entire community,” said Nancy McKinstry, executive director at The Lakes at Litchfield.  “The wellness center is particularly special to the community as it will provide our residents will innovative aquatic and land exercise regimens – all available to encourage longer, healthier lives.“

Both the wellness center and assisted-living initiatives are part of the community’s overall master plan of providing residents with a full range of care levels.  The opening of the new building will also will expand the community’s assisted living offering from 37 to 54 licensed units.

The connected wellness center features an indoor, heated therapy pool, state-of-the-art fitness equipment and exercise rooms.  The center will offer modern land and aquatic exercise programs including Arthritis Tai Chi and Aqua Twinges and Hinges – both approved and recommended by The Arthritis Foundation.

Wishon and Carter Builders was the general contractor for the construction of the new building, with Triad Design Group performing as the key architect and Joyce Design Group managing the interior design. 

Comprised of approximately 34 acres, The Lakes at Litchfield is a continuing care retirement community in Pawleys Island, S.C.  The campus features 58 single-family homes, 60 condominium-style villas, 54 assisted-living units, 11 memory-care units and 24 skilled nursing units.  The underlying theme of all wellness programs at The Lakes at Litchfield is to provide the environment, education, resources, motivation and encouragement that helps an individual rise to a level of personal wellness, ensuring overall quality of life.
